Ken Wells is the author of Boudin (LSU Press), a lively travelogue through the aromatic precincts of the “world’s most versatile sausage.”
Boudin is pork, rice, veggies, and spices in a casing. Yet in creative hands, and there are many in Louisiana, readers (and their taste buds) discover boudin tacos/burritos, boudin eggrolls and wonton, boudin sushi rolls, and more.
Ken Wells grew up on the bayous of South Louisiana, second of six sons of an alligator-hunting father and a Cajun French-speaking mother and gumbo chef extraordinaire.
Hence his earlier book: Gumbo Life: A Journey Down the Roux Bayou.
His career includes twenty-four years at The Wall Street Journal and five novels including Meely LaBauve and Junior’s Leg.
His non-fiction books, in addition to the aforementioned Gumbo, include The Good Pirates of the Forgotten Bayous: Fighting to Save a Way of Life in the Wake of Hurricane Katrina and Travels with Barley – A Journey Through Beer Culture in America among others.
Praise for Boudin: “… assiduous research with an accessible writing style that will make readers feel welcome—and hungry.” ~Ben Sandmel, author, folklorist, and drummer
The Mighty Gospel Warriors are a dynamic traditional quartet founded in 1987 by brothers Homer and Sammy Judon from Bruce, Mississippi. The group also includes David Welch, C.W. Vance, and before his passing, the brothers’ father, veteran gospel singer Hulet Judon.
The group has toured extensively, serving up their “good ole foot-stomping, hand-clapping, traditional gospel music.”
Their six CDs include Let’s Praise the Lord (Live)! Copies will be available at the show and wherever CDs are sold.
Alva Leigh is a singer/songwriter born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Alva collaborated with Matt Ingram (Laura Marling, Florence & the Machine) to produce her new album Wilderness, now available on Esperanza Recordings.
“This record will both crack your heart wide open and give you the courage to carry on.” – Mississippi-native novelist, Jimmy Cajoleas
Alva is a former member of the duo Lewis & Leigh, the celebrated Americana duo she formed with Welshman Al Lewis who released their debut album Ghost to critical acclaim,
