Dennard Dayle is the author of How to Dodge a Cannonball (Henry Holt), a razor-sharp satire that dives into the heart of the Civil War.
The book follows Anders, a proud Union flag twirler (happy to escape his violently insane mother) – until he’s captured. Then he tries life as a diehard Confederate.
The book was a New York Times Notable Book of 2025, an NPR Books We Love pick, and a “Best Book of the Year” by Kirkus Reviews, People and LitHub.

Dennard Dayle is a Jamaican American author who lives in Brooklyn, New York. His short fiction has appeared in the New Yorker and McSweeney’s Internet Tendency.
His previous book was the short story collection, Everything Abridged (Abrams), named a Best Book of the Year by the New Yorker.
Lenny Kaye is an American guitarist, composer, record producer, and writer, and is a founding member of Patti Smith and Her Band.
Kaye is also renowned for curating the highly influential rock and roll album, Nuggets. The compilation is a two-album set released in 1972, Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965 – 1968.
Last year for Record Store Day, he released a 50th anniversary album of songs from Nuggets, Lenny Kaye and Friends Live At The Cat’s Cradle – A 50th Anniversary Celebration Of Nuggets, performed by Kaye, Steve Wynn and Alejandro Escovedo, among others.
Kaye is also a fine writer. In his latest book, Lightning Striking – Ten Transformative Moments in Rock and Roll (Ecco) he explores ten crossroads of time and place, ten different cities or regions that birthed rock and roll.
From Elvis’ Memphis, the Beatles’ Liverpool, Patti Smith’s New York, or Kurt Cobain’s Seattle, the author (and reader) revels in the communal energy that creates a scene and shakes the world.
Kaye lives in New York and for New Year’s Day 2026, played pedal steel for Hank-o-Rama, an annual Hank Williams tribute show.
Aybil (pronounced “able”) is a singer-songwriter from Memphis, TN (after a stop in New Orleans and formative gospel years in Tulsa, OK).
Her releases include the album, Live From the Green Room and the singles, Shallow Waters, Jordan Poole and American Body.
